Hanuman Jayanti or the day when Lord Hanuman was born is celebrated every year on Full Moon Day in the month of Chaitra. Hanuman who is also known as Vanara (Monkey) God was born on this day and so this day is to commemorate his birth anniversary.

This year in 2017 Hanuman Jayanti or sometimes also Hanumath jayanti is falling on 11th April. This day people visits to the Hanuman Temple nearby them in a large number to worship in early morning. They chant Hanuman Chalisa (Hanuman Prayer) and seek his blessings.

In Indian mythology god Hanuman is believed to be born with magical powers. He has ability to overwhelm the evil powers /spirits. He can assume any form at will, wield rocks, move mountains, and can fly through air. This is why god Hanuman is also considered as symbol of strength.

Hanuman god is known as big devotee of lord Rama and for his devotion towards Lord Rama he is being worshiped by many of dhis devotees.

How Hanuman Got His Name ??

There is a legend behind Maruti (Child name of Hanuman) this how Hanuman Ji got his name. Once when he was a kid, got angru on Devraj Indra and he hit Devraj Inder’s “Thodi” (Hanu) With his “Gadha”. Ans so he got his name as Hanuman.

Hanuman Jayanthi Celebration Time~Beliefs

Devotees observe Hanuman Jayanti on different time of the year according to their belief. In most of North Indian states it is celebrated on 15th day of the Shukla Paksha, during the month of Chaitra while some people specially in Southern India people celebrate Hanuman Jayanthi on Margazhi month of Moola nakshathram. As people in Tamil Nadu believes that Hanman was born on the moola nakshathra in Marghazi month.

In tamil people call Hanuman Jayanthi as hanumath Jayanthi, in Karnataka it is knwon as Hanuman Vratam. In Andhra Pradesh people this event is celebrated for 41 days starting from Chaitra Purnima and end it on Hanuman Jayanti Day, tenth day during Krishna Paksha in Vaishakha month.

During the celebration people apply Tilak of color deep orange and light red on their forehead. On Hanuman temples Prasad (spiritual discourse) is given to all the devotees at dawn before sunrise. As it is believed that Lord Hanuman was born at Sunrise.
