Lionel Messi, One of the biggest name in the Football World has been banned by the FIFA. Yes, FIFA has banned the Argentina’s star footballer Messi for the next 4 World Cup Qualifier games.
After this ban he would not be able to play for Argentina in next qualifier game of World Cup against Bolivia now. He will however be available for his club Barcelona during this ban. Messi Suspended For 4 Matches For Using Insulting Words
The fans were left in shock when they heard the news that Lionel Messi has been banned not for 1 or 2 but for the 4 matches. What all happened was, during a World Cup 2018 Qualifier match on 23rd March 2017 against Chile, he abused one of the match officials.
During the second half of the game, Messi was called by the assistant referee Emerson Carvalho for a foul. But this legend strongly opposed the decision. He shouted at Carvalho who happens to be a Brazilian, along with waving his arms.
Argentina however won the match 1-0, but Messi’s unhappiness seen at the end of match. He shook the hands with 2 officials but went ahead without shaking his hands with Carvahlo.
This was the reason, why Lionel Messi has been banned by the FIFA. Alongside the 4 matches suspension he also got a 10,000 Swiss francs fine which amount roughly to $10,200.
What FIFA Said Officially Regarding Banning Messi
The FIFA released the statement regarding this ban which reads “The FIFA Disciplinary Committee – in application of Articles 77 a) and 108 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code (FDC) – has reached a decision in relation to the case of Lionel Messi following an incident that occurred during the match between Argentina and Chile on 23rd March 2017 as part of the qualifying competition for the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia:
Lionel Messi has been found guilty of violating art. 57 of the FDC for having directed insulting words at an assistant referee.”
On this, the Team Secretary Jorge Miadosqui addressed the media and said “The federation will appeal, as it should. We feel powerless, surprised.”

Messi had only scored 4 goals in 13 out of 18 matches but the ban would surely affect the Argentina’s performance on the ground in next 4 matches. He had already missed These matches are schedules Against
- Vs Bolivia (Already Missed The Qualifier Match)
- Vs Uruguay In August 2017
- Vs Venezuela in September
- Vs Peru in October
After the match suspension he will play last World Cup qualifier match against Ecuador on 10th October.
