We all celebrate the festival of Christmas with our friends, family exchange gifts and enjoy good meal. Some become Santa in Red and entertain children. But do you know the actual story of Santa Claus / Father Christmas ?? What his other name was ??Where does he come from ?? What is his Hometown / village ? Was there any Real Santa Claus in History ??
If we talk about Christmas we can’t ignore Santa Claus. Yes Santa, the jolly man in red loved by all children has a history all his own. He was known all the way back to the 3rd century. Today we can see him in Shopping Malls having fun with children.
Origin Of Santa In History For First Time
His origin is related to Hundred of years back, to a monk named St. Nicholas. Nicholas was born sometime around 280 A.D. in Turkey. It is believed that he is admired for his kindness and there are many stories related with him.
One such story said, he gave away all of his inherited wealth and traveled the countryside helping the poor and sick. Another known legend is that he saved three poor sisters from being sold into slavery or prostitution by their father.
As time passed, people identifies him as protector of children and sailors. His death anniversary is celebrated as his Feast Day on December 6. This day is considered lucky to day to make large purchases or to get married.
How We Got Santa Image As We Saw Him Today ?
We all consider Santa’s as Red Jolly elf,right? But Why ?? There is a fact behind this. In 1822, Clement Clarke Moore, an Episcopal minister, wrote a poem for St. Nicholas for her daughters. In which he describe Santa Claus as what we see him today. We see him as riding on sleigh pulled by eight flying reindeer–leaving presents for good children.
There was another fact which is related with a cartoonist who cartooned the St. Nicholas as cheerful man with a full, white beard, who came from North Pole workshop holding a sack filled with toys for lucky children. Santa’s village is considered to be at Arctic Circle in Rovaniemi, Lapland in Finland and there spending his time and spreading the message love and goodwill of Christmas Spirit throughout the globe.
